Join us this Friday anytime from 5pm-8pm to learn more Each week, for the next month, we will post a board highlighting SHADE Institute’s work to prepare Honolulu’s Chinatown for the rail station coming in 2031 and the larger Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plan. 

Follow along each Monday On October’s First Friday, you can visit SHADE and several other design firms in the central business district of downtown during this open house.

Learn more about what SHADE and other firms have been working on SHADE Institute is proud to announce that we are one of the recipients of the Docomomo US 2024 Modernism in America Awards for a Commercial Design Citation of Merit, for our adaptive and modern restoration of King Liberty Center. 

Originally designe On August 6th the second Riverwalk Community Design Workshop was held at Halewai’olu Senior Residences. During the workshop Fellows introduced two design concepts for future development.

Concept 1: Rebuild and Revitalize
This concept takes the Join us for SHADE Institute's annual Summer event at the King Liberty Center in Chinatown this August 1st from 6-8pm.

During the event, SHADE will present Mark Hashem with its first COMMUNITARIAN AWARD for his longstanding community service and rece This coming Tuesday at 10:00 we will be holding a community design workshop for the riverwalk project at our office on 99 N King Street. Located just north of the boundaries of Chinatown, the riverwalk has a rich history and culture. This workshop wi SHADE Institute is presenting two community design workshops this July. The first event being the Waipio Point Access Road Multimodal + Safety Improvement Project (WPARMSI).
